| Needs |
Volunteer at the Allegan ShelterVolunteers assist with transportation to other shelters, rescues and foster homes and vet or grooming appointments. Volunteers may assist with dog walking and exercise programs for the cats and dogs. Animal care, kennel and yard cleaning, and animal feeding are also critical tasks. Those handling animals must be 18 years and older, however, we have many other opportunities for younger people including for students in need of service hours.Volunteer at the Wishbone HouseVolunteer to help out at the Wishbone House thrift shop and cage-free cat petting rooms. Help us put on our low-cost spay and neuter clinic at Wishbone House. Assist with adoption events and fundraisers in the community. Volunteers also help out in the Pet food pantry. Those handling animals must be 18 years and older, however, we have many other opportunities for younger people including for students in need of service hours.FosterOur foster program allows our highly adoptable cats and dogs to be housed for longer periods than practical within the shelter while they await forever homes. We are looking for people who can provide a positive experience for the pet and are willing to participate in their development and adoption. We cover all medical expenses for our pets while in foster care, however, foster families are expected to provide a nutritional diet. |

| About us | At the shelter, located north of downtown Allegan, we care for 3,000-plus animals a year. We often refer to this part of our rescue work as the Animal Shelter Alliance Project (ASAP). Since then, we’ve expanded hours and programs and greatly increased the survival rate for animals who enter the shelter. Our goal is to reach 100 percent survival and rehoming. |
