Our comforting, made-from-scratch meals send the message to those in greatest need that someone cares. We invite children (and adults) of all ages to help brighten our clients’ day with handmade cards throughout the year.

Community Service opportunities are available for scouts, sports teams, or other youth groups. Youth actively participate in hands-on activities to learn about families in need.

Adults, teens (13-17), and children (8-12, accompanied by adult) are needed to sort and package donations of clothes, toys, and baby equipment. We have two locations to choose from: Boxford (clothes and baby equipment) on the 1st Saturday of each month or Middleton (toys) on the 3rd Saturday of each month.

From starting seeds in the greenhouse and planting seedlings in the spring, to tending, harvesting, and washing the crops all summer long and into the fall – our volunteers do it all! Host a Drive: We ask all of our volunteer groups to host a product collection prior to their visit to help us further our mission. Pre-Register Your Group: It is crucial that all volunteers coming to your shift pre-register by using the link in the confirmation email received by the group leader.

A volunteer shift in The Giving Factory Warehouse involves hands-on processing of the donated goods that flow in on a regular basis. Each station in our warehouse includes inspecting, sorting, and packaging donations to ultimately be distributed to the children we serve.

In response to the pandemic, Boston Cares has worked with our community partners to identify ways volunteers can support local needs from the safety of their own homes. Opportunities include DIY projects at home, virtual/phone support, tutoring, and capacity building roles, with more needs being added regularly.

Throughout the year Heritage Village Museum runs a variety of special events. Help anywhere from admissions and concessions to dressing in period clothing and interpreting our historic buildings or doing 19th century demonstrations, there is something for everyone!

Groups who volunteer receive an educational, team-building experience while sorting and packing food for those in need. The Kids Who Care (KWC) program is a special volunteer opportunity that allows children as young as 10 years old to volunteer alongside family and friends, bagging and boxing food for children, seniors and families in need.
