At the Light Station, we also have a number of positions in our Museum store, answering questions, selling tickets, books and souvenirs to finance the restoration and preservation of the oldest Lighthouse in Michigan.

Assist by organizing events, soliciting donations, grant writing, grant management, identification of grant opportunities, and more.

Take part in our education programs by conducting school field trip presentations, liaising with schools, and developing new field trip opportunities.

We also have a role for volunteers behind the scenes. With tens of thousands of artifacts in our collection, the Museum is constantly inventorying and cataloging these historical treasures. We are also always looking for those who like to write, or are handy with a hammer.

Volunteers work in areas from researching genealogy, cataloging artifacts and library materials, to assisting with membership and mailings. They also work in Spring and Third, the Museum Store, creating displays and greeting patrons. Some become docents, assisting the Museum Educator with visiting classes, and others give lectures, coordinate fund raisers or help with raising much…

Public relations and marketing volunteer help with: graphic design, establishing contacts, media/advertising, conducing community presentations, securing media support, helping identify partnering opportunities, and delivering fliers to area schools.

Volunteers help with feeding dogs, taking them outside for recreation and cleaning kennels. Dog volunteers must be over 18.

Maintenance around the building. Laundry and general housekeeping. Groundskeeping and gardening.
