Direct Service is on-site volunteering. Direct service opportunities include but are not limited to: cooking and/or serving a meal, picking up and/or dropping off donations, working in our food pantry, cleaning, laundry, tutoring, doing craft projects with the children at our Family Shelter, and completing outdoor clean-up projects.

East End House brings fresh produce and canned foods, as well as entertainment, to low-income housing complexes for seniors and people with disabilities. Volunteers will assist in all aspects of the Farmer’s Market, including transporting food, loading and unloading, set-up, bagging and handing out food, break-down and clean-up.

Food Pantry Volunteers will assist in greeting consumers, helping consumers fill out forms, stocking food pantry, packing grocery bags, unpacking food deliveries, cleaning the pantry, and taking inventory.

The Mentoring Program at EEH matches adult mentors with middle school youth who have been selected by EEH staff over the course of a year. The School Age Program serves children kindergarten through fifth grade from many of the Cambridge Public Schools. Assist group leaders with activities, tutor, help with homework and literacy, or run special workshops on STEM, art, computers, and more.

Assist teachers with classroom activities. Read, sing, play an instrument, arts and crafts, play games, or share a talent with toddlers and preschoolers.

As a tutor, you are a one-on-one academic resource for an immigrant high school student in our Enroot Program. Tutees are all immigrant high school students in Cambridge and Somerville. Tutors help with homework, language skills, and study skills. Our staff is on site during all tutoring sessions to support you.

As a mentor, you are a role model, adviser, friend, and guide helping your mentee to dream big, set goals, and pursue them.
