Want to get more involved than the drop in days allow? Volunteers help with the upkeep at the Urban Teaching Farm at Renown on the corner of 2nd and Gould. You will work with Urban Roots staff to maintain hoop houses, landscaping, irrigation, planting, or harvesting. Have a carpentry background? Know a lot of vermicompost?…

Volunteers lend helping hands during special events. You can help with the planning, help us set up or take down, lead an activity, greet guest or more! Besides being great fun, these events are critical for the community contact and fundraising capabilities of Urban Roots.

Stop by the Urban Teaching Farm at Renown (1700 East 2nd Street) Saturday mornings from 9-11 and help us with special projects or regular farm maintenance.

Volunteers help parents and students engage in basic science exploration. During Family Science Nights, we offer 8 to 10 stations of simple science experiments testing different concepts and processes. Volunteers don’t need science knowledge to run the stations.

The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach at a Girls on the Run program site while serving as a role model and mentor for program participants. The position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week for a 10-week commitment.

A group whose goal is to comfort those experiencing loss by helping serve at memorial service receptions. Some set-up and decorate. Some bring or serve food. Others help with clean up. In a practical way, comfort and joy are given during a time of grief and loss.

The Practical Needs Service Team exists to serve our church body by caring for others in tangible ways. This may include one-time project needs, moving assistance, or small household tasks. The purpose of the Visitation Team is to share the love of God by offering prayer, compassionate and practical support, and face-to-face visits to the hospitalized and elderly in our church body. We desire to allow God to work through us to provide encouragement and hope.

Here are some of the things we can always use help with: clearing fire dangers around pens (weeds, brush, downed limbs), maintaining and expanding fences and shelters, prepping for winter and summer, assisting with animal health checks, cleaning food and water dishes, painting and staining.
