Ambassadors are the lifeblood of the festival. It is our ambassadors that make every moment magical for our guests. They fill a wide range of roles including servers, assisting with events, clean up, ushers, registration, working the welcome center, and more.

Volunteers lead school tours, help get the mail out, answer the phone, provide clerical assistance, greet visitors, and work at special events.

A Community Share Group is group of five or more participants from a non-profit organization. These groups are assigned to specific volunteer shifts and in return for their hard work, the Festival provides the 501c3 organization with a donation based on the number of people volunteering and the total hours worked. A Volunteer Team is any group of four or more individuals from local companies, civic/service groups, churches, and clubs (just to name a few) that wish to volunteer together. It’s a fun way to build relationships within your organization and the community.

Some of the volunteer opportunities are ushering (done through outside community groups), working on stage, running concession and volunteering for dark night events. If you would like to volunteer in the Box Office during our season we can always use an extra hand!

Our story is a visual one and we rely on our talented volunteer photographers to capture the essence of our natural areas and the people who hike and volunteer at them. Please contact us if you are interested in sharing your photos of Leelanau for us to use!

Our trail stewards walk their assigned natural areas regularly and help to keep trails open by removing trees and communicating with our staff about trail conditions.

If you love being outside and want to make a difference, sign up for a workbee! Trail maintenance, planting trees and invasive species removal are among the many jobs our volunteers help with.

We have been monitoring county lakes and streams almost since our founding in 1988. Volunteers are needed to help gather water samples and take other measurements such as flow and depth.
