​Gleaning is an activity anyone can do: harvesting crops like tomatoes, beans or apples. With a few hours of free time, you can do something really meaningful.

Volunteer Groups make a sponsorship donation to underwrite food costs on the day that they prepare and serve the meal. Groups of 4­-6 volunteers work in the kitchen and prepare hundreds of meals under the direction of Chef Sherry. Volunteers also serve the guests breakfast and lunch restaurant style, prep food for the next day,…

There are also opportunities for junior volunteers between the ages of 14-18. These special volunteers assist in Webster at Rye’s intergenerational programs. They may help residents hand out treats to children at Halloween, assist in a weekly bowling game or teach someone how to use the computer.

Some volunteers might choose to share their hobbies, talents and special interests, while others provide important emotional support to an individual by simply holding a hand or lending an ear. Volunteers can have regularly scheduled assignments or can come in to help with a specific event, such as a holiday party or a shopping trip…

Urban Edge residents are proud of their homes, and work to clean up and spruce up common areas. We welcome anyone who cares to join us in this positive effort. Volunteers assist with raking, painting, general cleanup, securing donations.

With springtime comes new growth! We welcome adult volunteers back onto the farm to help us seed trays in our greenhouse early in the spring. Later in the year we welcome all ages to help us in the farm fields! Groups should not be larger than five people.

Particularly in the warm-weather months, we schedule community-building events that might be anything from a cookout to a neighborhood walk. Volunteers are welcome to join us, pitch in, and get to know your community.

Help stock shelves, refrigerators and freezers. Assemble custom grocery bags and distribute them to individuals and families. Work one day, two days or all three days to provide food to the needy in the Brockton area. Any student under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, teacher or mentor.
