Docents occasionally staff the museum for 2 hours on Sunday afternoon with another docent. They give tours, answer questions, and sell shop items.
Create one-of-a-kind Memory Bears from VITAS patients’ clothes to comfort the family.
Provide support in the office: filing, preparing mailings, computer input, answering the phones, special projects.
Visit patients and families at home, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, inpatient hospice units. Pay a friendly visit; relieve a family caregiver for an afternoon out; accompany a patient to the beauty salon, grocery store or a social event; read aloud; listen to memories; walk the dog; be the high point of someone’s day.
Patients and families explore their creative side and express their feelings through the visual arts.
Springwell’s volunteer Medical Escorts provide seniors with an escort to medical appointments. Medical Escorts wait during the appointment (up to 1.5 hours) and provide accompaniment home, providing transport and companionship. Medical Escorts can provide a ride and they can give minimal assistance getting into and out of a car and into the medical facility.
There are two volunteer levels for this program. Volunteers with the Bill Payer Service help with a variety of tasks including writing checks (for the person being helped to sign), balancing a checkbook, and/or developing a budget. Seniors need opportunities to socialize and maintain connections. Senior luncheons at community dining sites are a great way to stay active while enjoying a nutritious and delicious meal. At each dining site, a dedicated staff and team of friendly volunteers checks-in guests, serves food, and ensures a welcoming environment.
