Volunteers are needed to help with all aspects of running the store. Opportunities include: cashier, customer assistant, driver assistant, merchandise assistant, office assistant, repair assistant, social media assistant, and warehouse assistant.

Working closely with the construction manager, crew leaders guide, teach and engage small groups of unskilled or semi-skilled volunteers. Crew Leaders demonstrate tasks, maintain standards, monitor safety and assure that volunteers have enough meaningful work to have a satisfying experience. We need friendly, cheerful volunteers to answer the telephone, greet visitors and help with general office duties. Clerical and/or administrative experience is required. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9AM to 5PM.

Volunteers at the ReStore will help process donations, move merchandise, greet and assist customers, clean, repair and refurbish donations along with a variety of other tasks.

The most popular volunteer activity is helping on the construction site. You’ll work alongside our construction team and partner families from 9am to 3:30pm on your build day to help construct Habitat houses. No previous construction skills are expected. We are currently seeking volunteers to support a few projects requiring specific skills and expertise. Skills we are looking for include photography, videography, web design, grant writing, engineering and carpentry for small scale urban farm projects, mural creation and other artists, and farm/garden management.

Volunteers help staff the weekly Mobile Farmers Market, selling produce, interacting with customers, posting flyers, knocking on doors to bring more people out to the market. The Mobile Farmers Market offers the most affordable fresh produce in the state, targeting public and senior housing in Somerville.

School Garden Assistant Teachers commit to supporting school garden educational programming at one school. Stewards must have at least some availability during the school day.
