The Affinity Group was founded in 2005 as a support group for the Volunteer Center. Our donation-driven food pantry provides bags of non-perishable food and nutrition handouts* to select elementary schools in Carson, Compton, Long Beach, San Pedro, Torrance and Wilmington every week. Volunteers assemble and deliver bags of food filled with items to make 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 dinners to the local schools on Fridays.
In order to serve our community, we need volunteers to help maintain the pantry by spending a couple of hours each week performing one (or more) of the following tasks: assist with food sorting, stocking shelves, and providing assistance to clients during food pick up.
Help us remove non-native plants, replace them with locally grown native plants, and pick up trash left at the Preserve.
Help to bag fresh produce for food insecure families and seniors.
Help to pack boxed lunches for kids in our kitchen. These meals are served to thousands of kids each day during their after school program.
Book preparation events are held regularly each week. Preparing 52,000 books per month is a task that can only be accomplished with the help of dedicated volunteers. Volunteers are also needed to help scan books.
