Anyone who wants to help make a difference can be a volunteer. You don’t have to love being outdoors or have prior experience. The Park District offers training and a variety of volunteer opportunities to suit your interests and skill set.
Volunteers are needed for various events throughout the year for our FARE Program. Programs include Backyard Gardens, Community Gardens at Lincoln Hill, Mobile Food Pantry, Gardening and Nutrition Classes.
If your small group, church, or school is interested in doing a service project at Safe Harbor, we’d be blessed to have you!
If you are trained in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or other contracting skills, we’d love to have your help when maintenance issues arise.
Volunteering with RTR means you’re making lives better, with a few extra hours you can help us complete projects like: Yard clean-up (spring and fall), Deck staining and weather-proofing, Mulching and weeding, Building planter beds, Planting flowers and vegetables, Power-washing and exterior cleaning, Interior painting, Light office projects and many Other projects, as needed!
Lindy’s Bakery, Daybreak’s work-readiness program and dog treat bakery, provides ongoing volunteer opportunities for groups. Group members are expected to set a good example by modeling teamwork and effective communication while helping youth bake and package dog treats.

Our facilities department occasionally has opportunities for groups to assist with yardwork, deep cleaning, and other upkeep projects.
Our very active field crews work on habitat restoration including invasive control, planting and seed collection. Other efforts include boardwalk and trail construction, repair, and maintenance. Volunteer crews begin field work in mid-March and run through mid-November depending on weather. Saturday crews work weekly from 9am – 12pm, and Sunday crews from 1pm – 4pm,…
