These hardworking individuals assist with everything from helping out at events, sending out mailings, walking dogs, fostering sick animals and more!
We have been monitoring county lakes and streams almost since our founding in 1988. Volunteers are needed to help gather water samples and take other measurements such as flow and depth.
Volunteers assist with various tasks such as sorting clothing, office work, and more. If you are interested in contributing time as a volunteer please contact us.
Citizen Scientists help to gather information and track changes that are happening in our environment. The Leelanau Conservancy will provide training on species identification and data collection. Monitoring can be done individually or we can pair volunteers up to work together!
Taking a hike with our wonderful, knowledgeable docents is a great way to get to know our natural areas. Annually, they lead over 500 people on hikes in all four seasons.
What a beautiful place to put your retail experience to work — or gain some!
Greet visitors, give directions, answer questions, and provide information about the activities of the KIA.
We are always in need of volunteer photographers and those with hours to give on a regular basis.
The KIA hosts a variety of programs and events each month (each week!) and this is our primary and ongoing volunteer need. Tasks are varied — everything from selling drinks, to food preparation, to helping visitors complete art projects.
Docents are trained guides who lead museum tours for children and adults. Candidate docents complete a 9-month training course before joining the docent corps, which is offered every two years. The next docent class will be forming in 2022. Docents sign up to lead 1-2 tours a month, for a total of 18 per year.
