Our Mental Health Wellness component helps our Mentees cope with life’s challenges by strengthening their social, emotional and psychological well-being. BINGO gives Mentees encouragement and hope by promoting healthy relationships with family and friends, conflict resolution, and emotional stability.

Mentors are volunteers who build a relationship of unconditional caring and friendship to help refugee teens learn independent living and social skills. As positive role models, mentors share their knowledge and experience to help the youth adjust to differences they experience in the United States. Mentors also help them explore educational and career choices.

Tutors help youth succeed in a new educational system and develop positive study habits. Tutors must have a bachelor’s degree in any field of study and may work with one youth or several.

Interpreters facilitate effective communication for limited English proficient refugee youth. They bridge the gap between language barriers and help the youth adjust to their new home. Interpreters are responsible for listening to, understanding, and translating spoken or written statements from one language to another. We provide tutoring lessons one-on-one via online teleconferencing. Sessions are Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00PM – 5:15PM Eastern Standard Time. Volunteers normally contribute 1-hr 15 min. per week to assist youth in a particular subject.

We offer youth academic support in English, Math, Reading, and Science. I-ASSIST YOUTH is an extension of The Lawn Academy to increase the academic competency of youth.

Your youth group, church, family or group of friends can organize a service project. Hold a bake sale and donate the proceeds to senior adults. Organize a toiletry drive or clothing drive to help incoming refugees.

Set up an apartment, or help an incoming refugee learn to ride the bus through our New Americans program.

One of the best motivators for young men of color is seeing successful African American male leaders and hearing their personal stories of perseverance, accountability and overcoming obstacles. Just one interaction with a positive role model can spark a lifetime of motivation for our young Mentees.
