Our cooking program serves current residents and other members of the Alexandria House community. It is a wonderful treat for women living in residence when volunteers come to cook dinner! Just like you, they have a busy life with work, school and kids and can use a “night off “ too! Dinner should be served…

There are a number of special projects that volunteers are welcome to initiate and participate in. Projects include: workshop series for residents or community members, gardening, office support, fundraising projects, cleaning and beautification of the houses.

Volunteers can also assist with shopping and other errands, or stay with the patient to allow family caregivers a break from the demands of caregiving.

There are many ways that Hospice of Hope volunteers contribute. This can include companionship, reading to patients, taking walks, listening to music, writing letters, taking them to appointments, and other activities.

Visit patients and families at home, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, inpatient hospice units. Pay a friendly visit; relieve a family caregiver for an afternoon out; accompany a patient to the beauty salon, grocery store or a social event; read aloud; listen to memories; walk the dog; be the high point of someone’s day.

As a volunteer, you’ll visit, make phone calls, attend support groups, attend memorial services and send bereavement mailings.

Springwell’s volunteer Medical Escorts provide seniors with an escort to medical appointments. Medical Escorts wait during the appointment (up to 1.5 hours) and provide accompaniment home, providing transport and companionship. Medical Escorts can provide a ride and they can give minimal assistance getting into and out of a car and into the medical facility.
