Field Trips volunteers help LAUSD classes write and publish a book in just three hours. Depending on the type of Field Trip, volunteers can support with classroom or small group facilitation, writing support, illustration and publishing support.

Volunteers provide homework assistance to students ages 6 to 12. Students will also work on creative writing assignments developed by 826LA, which will then be published in books at the end of each semester. Workshops are volunteer led and supported! Through workshops, volunteers show students how writing connects to their lives in unexpected ways. If volunteers are interested in leading a workshop, 826LA staff will support with the development of the lesson plans and activities. Writing techniques and content will vary depending on student age group.

Volunteers support high school students with their creative writing projects or personal statements (fall semester). Sessions take place on LAUSD campuses, and last for the duration of a class period. Volunteers may work one-on-one with students or in small groups. In-Schools creative writing projects result in a book, or finished writing publication.

Our after-school and teen programs need volunteers to help students (5-18 years old) with homework, reading activities, and enrichment projects. Volunteers should be at least high school age, but we will consider mature middle school students.

Docents occasionally staff the museum for 2 hours on Sunday afternoon with another docent. They give tours, answer questions, and sell shop items.

The Volunteen Program is open to all students, 14-18 years of age, who have completed 8th grade, and currently have a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
