Do you love a great show? Usher or help in the box office before our performing arts series events.

Do you love customer service? Our front desk welcomes guests, answers questions, assists in the galleries, and answers phones. Set your own schedule! Weekly volunteers are always needed.

Do you love being a host or hostess? Help set-up, host, prepare food or greet at an upcoming Coffee @ Ten or Summer Lecture Series. Do you enjoy being a guide? Become a docent: learn about the current exhibits, give gallery tours and demonstrate hands-on projects for area schools and select adult groups.

Want to learn more? Have an interest in art? Want to get your hands in the “art”? These volunteers may assist with adult or children’s classes, help out at Thoreson Farm, act as a docent for various exhibits, help out in the gallery, or serve on a committee.

Assist with our TNR program. TNR helps to prevent the death of feral-born kittens, addresses community complaints and concerns about cats, and helps temper the breeding cycle. Our TNR program has two elements: the actual TNR of community cats, as well as building shelters for the cats.

Cleaning and preparing the Catfé Lounge before opening hours. Assisting at the Catfé Lounge during working hours. Includes greeting visitors, caring for the Catfé, and ensuring the care of cats and kittens. Volunteer applicants for the Ferndale Cat Shelter must be at least 18 years of age.

This is often the most overlooked and one of the most important jobs of Adopt-A-Pet. Many animals come in and are very scared, shy and confused. Their worlds have been turned upside down. They need people to sit in and talk, sing or just spend time with them. Groom and pet cats. Groom and walk…

Additionally, volunteers are needed for community engagement and door-to-door literature distribution in the neighborhoods near D-Town Farm, the DBCFSN office and the area where the Detroit People’s Food Co-op will be located.
