Development Centers provides early education and family support to low-income families living in the 48219, 48223, 48228 and 48235 zip codes. These services are in accordance with the federal Office of Head Start. Volunteers interact with infants and toddlers in classrooms, office organization, assisting with parent-child interaction groups, coordination of resource fairs, and diaper drives.
Greeters welcome visitors to the Heritage Center, introduce visitors to the contemporary art gallery as well as the historical exhibit Pride Overcomes Prejudice. They are also well informed about the goings on in the City Center. The JSAAHC relies on its greeters to create a welcoming environment to all of its guests.
Community Guides are invaluable to the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center. They play an important role in implementing the museum’s education mission by guiding groups of all ages on a variety of tours of the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center exhibitions. We need volunteers who are willing to be “out and about” in the community on a regular basis, doing outreach such as: helping educate tobacco retailers, providing prescription drug awareness, and helping at health fairs. Training is provided and the schedule is very flexible!
Mentor students ranging from 5-8 years old at The Center for Success. We’ve prepared activities for mentor-student pairs to use during the remote sessions. Training is required.
Work groups are task-oriented, project-based opportunities that focus on a specific outcome and are closely aligned with volunteer skill sets and interests.
