Workshops are volunteer led and supported! Through workshops, volunteers show students how writing connects to their lives in unexpected ways. If volunteers are interested in leading a workshop, 826LA staff will support with the development of the lesson plans and activities. Writing techniques and content will vary depending on student age group.
Volunteers support high school students with their creative writing projects or personal statements (fall semester). Sessions take place on LAUSD campuses, and last for the duration of a class period. Volunteers may work one-on-one with students or in small groups. In-Schools creative writing projects result in a book, or finished writing publication.
Volunteers help supervise up to 20 kids ranging in ages 1 to 13 years old. They must be willing to take charge and organize activities. Ideally, the Alexandria House staff would be supported by 3 volunteers each evening.
