Opportunities to help in the office include assisting with the sorting and distribution of in-kind donations, which includes supplying clothing to shelter residents and their children, responding to phone inquires or walk-in visitors; collecting and processing in-kind donations; assisting with general administrative functions, and troubleshooting problems and helping develop automated approaches to existing systems.

Protection Order Assistants, located in the Family Violence Intervention Program at Family Court, help victims of domestic violence complete and file Protection Order applications. They provide information about the application process, safety planning and community resources.

Shelter Advocates provide direct support and assistance to hotline callers and shelter residents. Duties include answering crisis calls, safety planning, screening callers for shelter and making appropriate referrals.

Childcare Volunteers are needed throughout the year. Opportunities include providing structured play activities, field trips, story time and arts and crafts.

Court Support Volunteers work with victims of domestic violence at Family Court to provide support in the courtroom and debrief with them after proceedings. They assist victims as they navigate a complex legal system, as well as provide safety planning and community resources.
