The program provides soccer, academic support, college exploration, job & career skill building, service projects, and community-building events. Opportunities to work with high schoolers after school, in the evening, or on weekends are available during Boston Public School’s academic year.
Volunteers help our members in a variety of different program areas such as tutoring, music, athletics, and more. We also have skill-based administrative volunteer positions available for individuals with backgrounds in project management, finance, development, etc. A background check is mandatory.
We have a limited number positions available on our Junior Staff team. These youth serve as volunteers at our organization on a weekly basis throughout the year working in our program areas.
Individuals serve in a variety of capacities based upon Club needs and volunteer interest and availability. Volunteers may support youth with homework, assist in program areas with the daily activity, coach, or help with administrative tasks, to list just a few.
In response to the pandemic, Boston Cares has worked with our community partners to identify ways volunteers can support local needs from the safety of their own homes. Opportunities include DIY projects at home, virtual/phone support, tutoring, and capacity building roles, with more needs being added regularly.
Volunteer Leaders (VLs) are an integral part of the Boston Cares experience. They serve as a liaison between volunteers, agency partners, and Boston Cares to ensure a positive experience for all. Motivate is tailored for our tiniest learners in grades pre K-2 and designed for early childhood development needs. Motivate mentors work with the whole class of students, helping to run academic activities and smooth transition time. Volunteers get hands-on classroom experience, while setting positive examples for good behavior.
Accelerate can assist any student in grades K-8 identified by their teacher as needing extra academic or socio-emotional support. Accelerate mentors work 1-on 1 with a student, or in small groups, during regular classroom instruction time. Accelerate is designed to help students who lack the skills, motivation or interest in ELA or math.
