Greet visitors, give directions, answer questions, and provide information about the activities of the KIA.
Docents are trained guides who lead museum tours for children and adults. Candidate docents complete a 9-month training course before joining the docent corps, which is offered every two years. The next docent class will be forming in 2022. Docents sign up to lead 1-2 tours a month, for a total of 18 per year.
Lend a hand with member and fundraising events
The KIA hosts a variety of programs and events each month (each week!) and this is our primary and ongoing volunteer need. Tasks are varied — everything from selling drinks, to food preparation, to helping visitors complete art projects.
Volunteers will provide exercise and much needed time away from their kennel by taking the dogs on walks throughout the grounds of the facility. We appreciate help with staffing the desk during open hours, along with cataloging, filing, and circulation of library materials.
Assist in the morning or evening clean-up efforts by washing dishes and putting them away. Washing dirty laundry and folding and putting away clean laundry. This also may include organizing the laundry area.
