Tutoring is a very important part of St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center’s literacy program. We have many retired educators that give their time tutoring our students. We are here to help them strengthen their education and learn the skills needed to go onto college, received their GED and live a productive life.

Our Program for Refugee Learners (PRL) is an online class for newly resettled refugees who speak English at a beginner level, and who also need additional literacy support as an introduction to the American alphabet. Volunteers co-teach an online class once per week for 12 weeks, using a proven curriculum.

Volunteers assist with transportation to other shelters, rescues and foster homes and vet or grooming appointments. Volunteers may assist with dog walking and exercise programs for the cats and dogs. Spark your creativity in our new volunteer program! WSG is pleased to announce “Spark,” a new volunteer group dedicated to creating a line of handmade fused glass items which will be sold in the WSG Gallery. Starting with a winter holiday theme, the projects will include colorful ornaments and small functional items.

Volunteers are invited to the flameworking studio to make beads for cancer patients. The Cardea Bead program creates a tangible expression of their journey. WSG provides training and materials are provided at no cost to participants. The Cardea Beads program is supported by Marie Yeager Cancer Center and Berrien County Cancer Service.
