Community connectors connect us with community organizations that our participant’s projects can serve and/or local business partners for sponsorships, discounts, in-kind support, or employee volunteers. Volunteer must be 21+ and have a valid driver’s license.

Volunteers who possess skills or professional/technical experience that may benefit Strongwater, such as photography, marketing, graphic design, computer knowledge, etc., are encouraged to contact us.

Volunteers serve on event committees and assist with planning and production during the various fundraisers and special events that Strongwater holds each year.

Is there a project you think would benefit the house? Let us know what you want to do. Past projects have included assistance with creating volunteer handbooks and developing activities for the Hattie and Eliza Stowe Educational Center.

Conduct research on your choice of topics related to the Friends of Harriet Beecher Stowe House. Research can be used to develop programs, lectures and tours and can provide additional resources for visitors and volunteers.

Perform clerical functions to assist the site manager. This may include database management, data entry, help with mailings, etc. It could also include inventory management for bookstore items.

Familiarize yourself with the content of the house and share that information with visitors. Answer questions, lead tours and welcome guests. Tours can last up to forty-five minutes and should include time for questions. You can choose to portray historical figures in costume. Feel free to make the presentation your own!

Maintain a clean and welcoming museum environment by assisting with sweeping, dusting, tidying and fixing. General handy-person skills will be utilized in a number of specific projects. Grounds maintenance may include planting, weeding, watering, picking up trash and sweeping.
