MHSA is seeking volunteers to support our mission in a variety of ways, including: assisting callers who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness in accessing housing and shelter resources.

Dedicated individual volunteers make a weekly commitment to More Than Words and form strong relationships with our youth. Book Lovers join youth on their Business Job, working alongside them sorting and processing books. Education Coaches support youth on their YOU Job, tutoring youth on modules, resumes, mock interviews, and more.

The Friendly Visitor Program matches volunteers with frail and isolated elders who are living either in their homes or long-term care facilities. Through one-on-one visits the program offers companionship, helps alleviate loneliness, promotes aging with dignity, and for many offers a treasured connection to Judaism.

The Greater Boston Jewish Coalition for Literacy (GBJCL) mobilizes the Jewish community to help elementary school children discover the joy of reading. Through partnerships with synagogues, Jewish community organizations, day schools, and local businesses, GBJCL engages volunteers in school-based one-to-one reading tutoring, book drives, and advocacy efforts in under-served communities.
