Use your professional skills and knowledge on an as-needed basis to provide much-needed skills such as reading and writing in multiple languages, graphic design, accounting, photography, licensed carpentry, interior design, landscaping and more.

Volunteers offer a warm smile as they provide hospitality and push a cart full of snacks, coffee and other beverages throughout our facility. They enjoy interacting with patients and caregivers as they await their appointments and receive treatment.

We welcome adult volunteers to help care for our resident wildlife, including our birds of prey and other live animals in the Critter House. Many of our cats and kittens are at the adoption center in the Petsmart store in Ann Arbor, MI. Volunteers are needed to care for the cats at the adoption center and help with the adoption process.

We are looking for volunteers to serve as board members, write grants, help with accounting, transport to spay/neuter appointments, cat care, socialization, etc.

Foster homes are always needed to take care of the cats and kittens until they can find permanent homes.

The therapeutic use of pets as companions has gained increasing attention in recent years for a wide variety of patients –including people with cancer. Animals can provide a source of comfort and bring out our nurturing instinct. If your dog is specially trained in this area, please contact us.

Our security/greeter volunteers monitor parking areas and greet people as they walk through our doors, offering a warm cup of coffee, a personal ‘hello’ and directions to appropriate areas. They represent the positive, caring atmosphere of the Center.

Feeders work as a team and are essential to HLER’s mission of rehabilitating equines. Two different teams of feeders feed 14 or more horses and donkeys at Castle Rock Farm every day, regardless of the weather. Feedings occur roughly from 7AM – 9AM in the morning and 4PM – 7PM in the evening.
