As a volunteer advocate you will serve as a confidential source of support and information for those affected by sexual and domestic violence through our 24-hour hotline. In addition, advocates accompany survivors to the hospital directly after an assault has occurred or to the police station to report a crime.

Learn how to spread the word about HAVEN services and prevention education programs and help us fulfill our mission of Ending Violence and Changing Lives. Outreach volunteers may also assist HAVEN by distributing outreach materials to various businesses, hospitals and other agencies in Strafford and Rockingham Counties.

For those who cannot dedicate a serious amount of time to HAWC or would rather gradually begin getting involved, consider the following volunteer opportunities that only require an orientation: document translation, clinical supervisor provider, and event related help.

Supervise and entertain the children of HAWC clients during support groups or in office appointments as needed.

Answer calls on HAWC’s 24-Hour Hotline, guide callers through safety planning, give community referrals, and keep a call log with other volunteers and staff members.

As a trained bill payer, a Money Management volunteer assists an elderly individual by developing a simple budget, sorting mail, writing checks, and balancing a checkbook. Volunteer ombudsmen visit and listen to residents’ concerns as well as problem-solve. Many residents of long-term care facilities sometimes have little or no contact with the outside world and some have few visitors. An ombudsman volunteer who visits regularly can make a huge difference in the quality of life of a resident.

We welcome everyone from avid gardeners to corporate teams and school groups to help with a variety of tasks like building or maintaining a community garden, teaching gardening basics to new gardeners, helping with garden-to-table food demonstrations, leading gardening or healthy eating workshops, assisting with our youth programs, and more!
