Disaster Preparedness InstructorAmerican Red Cross preparedness presentations provide emergency preparedness information and guidance that persons can use to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and other emergencies. Having more community members be better prepared for disasters can lead to a more resilient community, potentially help save lives, and reduce the negative impacts of disaster that affect a community. The time commitment is less than 5 hours per month, and for that you can help our community be better prepared for disasters, practice and strengthen your skills in leadership, instruction, coordination, and collaboration, and join the awesome team of Red Cross volunteers in Northern Nevada. We have preparedness presentations for businesses, kids in kindergarten through second grade, kids from fourth to seventh grade, and for adults. You can help with any or all of them!Community Volunteer LeaderThe American Red Cross in Northern Nevada responds to hundreds of disasters in our community every year, and we really need a leadership volunteer to work with the executive director and the disaster program manager to provide leadership to the volunteer base, build capacity to grow the volunteer base, assist with fundraising efforts, and advocate for the Red Cross in Northern Nevada with government entities, businesses, and other groups. Right now, we urgently need a Community Volunteer Leader in Elko, Nevada. The time commitment to help would be 10 hours per month or less.Youth Preparedness CoordinatorThe American Red Cross in Northern Nevada provides disaster preparedness education to kids and adults through programs called the Pillowcase Project and Prepare With Pedro. In order for these lifesaving programs to be effective, we need help coordinating and managing them. The Youth Preparedness Coordinator works directly with team members in these youth programs to engage current volunteers, train new team members for youth programs, work with community partners to schedule presentations and events, and other tasks. The time commitment to help would be about 10 hours per month, and probably less than that.Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service Local RepresentativeThe American Red Cross in Northern Nevada works closely with the VA's Voluntary Service program which has over 75,000 volunteers nationwide who have contributed more than 12 million hours of service. In order to be an exceptional part of this program, the Red Cross in Northern Nevada needs a leadership volunteer to act as a liaison and support coordination between the Red Cross and local VA health care facilities. This is a critical need right now. The time commitment to help would be about 10 hours per month. You would attend quarterly VA meetings and volunteer at our local VA facility according to your availability. |

How you help |

About us | Each day, thousands of people – people just like you – provide compassionate care to those in need. Our network of generous donors, volunteers and employees share a mission of preventing and relieving suffering, here at home and around the world. We roll up our sleeves and donate time, money and blood. We learn or teach life-saving skills so our communities can be better prepared when the need arises. We do this every day because the Red Cross is needed – every day. |
