Homestead Farm & SchoolhouseThe historic 1870s Homestead is open June-August, and we rely on volunteers to welcome visitors, lead historic crafts and activities, work in the garden, teach lessons at the log one-room schoolhouse or demonstrate historic skills. An orientation is offered with ongoing ‘on-the-job’ training. Reference materials are available to learn new skills. Volunteers must commit to working a minimum of 4-5 times during the season.Visitor Center GardenersJoin a team of enthusiastic gardeners working to showcase native plants in the gardens around the Visitor Center. These gardens help welcome thousands of visitors each year and demonstrate the importance and functionality of using native plants in home and business landscapes. Working in collaboration with CNC staff, gardeners will weed, water, mulch, plant and maintain the gardens throughout the growing season.Counselors-in-TrainingNature Day Camp offers a CIT volunteer opportunity for teens ages 13-17 and are interested in working with children outdoors. Online applications are accepted Jan-April each year. CITs are asked to make at least a two week commitment June-Aug. All training is provided. |

| About us | Today, Chippewa Nature Center is one of the largest private non-profit nature centers in the United States. Through the years, CNC has grown from its original 198 acre parcel and an all-volunteer staff to include over 1,500 acres, 40 staff members and hundreds of volunteers. Over 70,000 people visit CNC every year, including 1,000 Nature Day Campers and thousands of school children. |
