The First Tee of Cleveland impacts, influences and inspires Northeast Ohio youth ages 6 to 18 by empowering them to build strong character assets using Life Skills, Core Values and Healthy Habits. The First Tee of Cleveland is one of 150 chapters of The First Tee, a national initiative begun in 1997. The Cleveland Chapter was founded 19 years ago. Our main campus at Washington Golf Course in Newburgh Heights features a nine-hole golf course operated by Cleveland Metroparks. In 2019, more than 2,100 young people participated in programs led by more than 120 trained coaches and volunteers, providing a 7:1 coach / participant ratio. A five-year national independent study confirms that our activity-based character development programs increase grades, self-confidence and social responsibility of our participants. We serve youth through our green grass programs at 6 local courses, through our National School Program (NSP) in physical education classes in elementary schools and through outreach programs partnering with other youth organizations.
