Needs |
Lesson VolunteersLesson volunteers work directly with our instructors, therapists, and staff members providing assistance before, during and after a rider’s lesson. Trained to become sidewalkers and leaders, each member of the volunteer team has a specific responsibility. Working directly with the rider, sidewalkers are a helpful extension of the instructor, giving encouragement and physical support. Working directly with the horse, leaders groom, tack, and lead the horse at the walk and trot throughout the lesson.Special Events VolunteerVolunteers assisting with special events, such as our annual black tie Gala or our Annual BBQ and Family Faire, are part of volunteer committees and work directly with our development department and our event coordinators. Generally, members attend meetings starting six months prior to the event and help with day of event set-up and possibly volunteer at the event. |

How you help |
---|
About us | Based on eight acres in the historic city of San Juan Capistrano, the Shea Center is open to any person with a disability who can benefit from therapeutic riding where the horse and activities around the horse are designed to benefit a person with a special need. A horse’s three-dimensional walk closely replicates the human walk, helping stimulate the rider’s muscle coordination, strength, posture, balance and self-confidence. The special bond that develops between horse and rider also produces emotional and psychological benefits unique to the program that the Center offers. |
