| Our mission | The mission of the Tahoe Heritage Foundation is to preserve and protect the cultural heritage and natural history resources of the Lake Tahoe Basin through restoration, interpretation, and education. |

Heritage DaysProvides direct service to visitors in the 1920s historical portrayal of life at Lake Tahoe during the summer; support of games, activities and programs. Costumes required.Tallac MuseumProvides direct visitor service in the Gift Shop and supports retail sales, merchandising and display efforts.Traditional Craft DemonstrationsSupports exhibit and demonstrations for 1920s traditional artistry such as pottery, caligraphy, basket weaving, rug hooking and various artist mediums – sketching, painting and children’s art projects.GardensHands-on horticulture work in the formal garden areas of both the Baldwin and Pope estates and the Pope Estate vegetable garden with Master Gardener direction.BlacksmithingSupports demonstrations, education and item sales; proof of experience and references required.Roving Site & Garden DocentsWelcome visitors and present the interpretative stories of the Pope and Baldwin Estates, Houses,Out Buildings and Gardens through tours, talks, and other interactions. Work alongside and support interpretative staff and volunteers.Boathouse DocentsWelcome visitors and present the interpretative stories of the Pope Estate boathouse, boats and other objects through talks, video and other interactions. Work alongside and support interpretative staff and volunteers.PhotographySupports weekly photographic activities by volunteers, Tahoe Heritage Foundation & USFS staff, create marketing and social media quality photos.Restoration and PreservationSupports historic buildings preservation with ongoing efforts including carpentry, masonry, painting, electrical, plumbing, glass, rodent control; proof of expertise in these areas is required. Includes use, cleaning and maintenance of the shop, tools, equipment and supplies provided by Tahoe Heritage Foundation and USFS.Committee VolunteerVolunteer opportunities are offered to support and/or chair five committees: Marketing and PR, Fundraising, Administrative, Finance, and History and Interpretation.Interpretive Tours and ProgramsSupports historic houses, out buildings, daily tours, group tours, food/beverage history programs and special events; educational demonstrations and exhibits. Costumes and interpretative knowledge required.Exhibits and CollectionsSupports the daily tasks of collection management, including shelving, accessioning database work, and inventories. Assists with project-oriented tasks in support of the History and Interpretation chair, including but not limited to: delivery &/or receipt of object, object research, database management, and entry, object photography, rehousing, archival filing, archival scanning and cataloging, research, and other seasonal projects.Antique VehiclesSupports general maintenance, protection/care and repair of historic vintage vehicles;Tallac Museum Gift ShopProvides direct visitor service in the Gift Shop and supports retail sales, merchandising and display efforts.CostumingHands-on sewing and repairing of period appropriate costumes, support selection and fitting of volunteer costuming; work alongside costumer onsite and through email.Visitor and Member ServicesAll volunteers provide direct support for visitor services through the Tallac Museum Information Desk, serving as a greeter, host, or through administrative support.Landscaping and Grounds MaintenanceSupports general grounds, lawn, pathway, pond, fountain and irrigation system, tools & equipment maintenance; also supports Shoreline and Promenade trail maintenance of Resort area.Events & HospitalityProvides support for all public and private events, such as providing hospitality or assisting with entertainment, or large events like the Tallac Historic Site annual Gatsby Festival, Gatsby Festival High Tea & Vintage Fashion Show, Weekly Heritage Days, and yearly Special Fundraising Events.Heritage DaysProvides direct service to visitors in the 1920s historical portrayal of life at Lake Tahoe during the summer; support of games, activities and programs. | About us | Founded in 1996, the TAHOE HERITAGE FOUNDATION supports a variety of preservation, restoration and education projects and programs in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Tahoe Heritage Foundation formed a public/private partnership with the USDA Forest Service, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit to manage restoration projects and interpretive activities at the Pope and Baldwin Estates (two of three estates included in the Tallac Historic Site), adjacent to the southern shore of Lake Tahoe. |
