To the growing number of adults, children and veterans with physical disabilities who know it best, The Turn is more than a place or a program…it is a purpose. For nearly two decades, The Turn has been on the forefront of providing non-clinical, adaptive fitness and recreational opportunities to improve the health and wellness of people with physical disabilities in Northeast Ohio, offering programs, services, facilities and equipment largely unmatched anywhere in the region. By focusing on what participants can do versus what they cannot, our innovative fitness and recreation programs not only provide increased mobility and muscle strength, but, most importantly, offer a sense of community, friendship, and freedom that lends itself to enhanced self-esteem and the alleviation of depressive symptoms. Ultimately, this combination of mental and physical health and wellness allows those with disabilities to make “the turn” to the next chapter of their lives with confidence. For those who have already undergone extensive medical treatment to address their physical conditions, The Turn helps them answer the question of “What now?” and allows them to see a path forward beyond – and in spite of – their disability.
