About us | The national organization of which we are a part, YWCA USA, began fighting for women’s rights when it was formed in 1858, and it wasn’t long before its leaders became aware of additional discrimination against women of color. In 1890, the first black YWCA branch opened in Ohio. Our dual mission, to eliminate racism and empower women, stems from these historic events. |
